On July 11, 2020 there will be the 40th Anniversary of a report that was published under the authority of Elmer B. Staats, former Comptroller General of the United States of America. I read one his reports before and wrote a commentary on it:
Please see the above for information on how his report inspired me.
This report, however, is different. The Office of the Comptroller of Currency had received a request for "review of the Department of Energy's program for ensuring the safety and health of workers" at three sites under the purview of the Department of Energy. I have perused the report in part so far, however, it certainly deserves and NEEDS a more thorough evaluation. I am concerned that this report was in fact intentionally sabotaged, or at the least willfully ignored at the time and misrepresented for its importance, and that has accrued.
As stated in the letter, the report focuses on three areas:
"the adequacy of the department's appraisals of contractor health and safety programs,
"inspections of plant conditions, and
"investigation of employee complaints."
These are certainly the important matters of the time we are in now.
I am acknowledging Mr. Staats' report. I will do what I can to respond appropriately.
I do not know if he is still alive. I wish him well.
